What is iPad 6th generation?

Claimed to be faster and supporting more LTE band than its forerunner, the 6th generation of iPad is as cheap as iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 but is supercharged with a more powerful Apple A10 processor. It is also the first non-pro iPad that is compatible with Apple Pencil.

Price and Availability

Initially released in March 2018 during an Apple educational event, iPad 6(or the sixth-generation iPad, as it's officially called) is a popular tablet designed, manufactured, and marketed by Apple. It was named as the best-selling tablet of 2018. The 6th generation iPad is configured with a 9.7-inch Retina display and an A10 Fusion processor, the same processor used in the iPhone 7 family.

Typically, Apple reserves some premium features such as Apple stylus and smart connection support for the Pro models. The big news is that iPad 6th generation comes with Apple Pencil support. This brings Apple stylus support to the main iPad for the first time. It supports all Apple Pencil features including full and pressure sensitivity, but Promotion still remains as a Pro feature of the 10.5-inch iPad models.

While Apple marketed the 6th generation of iPad as an affordable product for schools and educators, it has found a warm reception from all types of iPad users. The new iPad is praised for a faster processing unit and Stylus support. However, it is criticized for having the identical display and design to its precursors as well as lacking support for smart connection and a laminated display and cover.

How are Look and Design of the 6th Generation iPad?

The 6th gen. iPad's look and design follow the same old iPad design which has been used for years. If you look at it, you will find the same familiar appearance and design of the 5th generation iPad. However, like the previous generation, it does not have a laminated display, making it harder to see harder in direct sunlight.
Shipped with a 9.7-inch Retina display and the same, say identical, dimensions and weight, the 2018 iPad starts where the 2017 model was left off. It also has the same beveled edges that help to handle the device while working with the touchpad. So, in terms of design it has nothing to add.

What's inside the 6th Generation iPad?

Regardless, it is the first cheap iPad that is compatible with Apple Stylus, turning it to a mobile drawing and note-taking device in the classroom or wherever you want. For that, Apple had to improve the touch resolution of the screen over the previous models. But as expected, the stylus performance is not as good as in Pro versions.

The Retina display has 2,048 × 1,536 resolution which makes everything look sharp. The brightness of the display is good enough for drawing with Apple Pencil outdoors.
The 2018 iPad is equipped with the first generation of Touch ID, a feature omitted in the Pro models, and replaced by Face ID detection. But this doesn't mean that it is sluggish. While Touch ID, the still preferred method for many users to unlock and login, is slower compared to iPad Pro when unlocking, you won't experience any tangible difference in practice.

In comparison with iPad Pro that has 4 speakers on the top and bottom, iPad 6 offers only two stereo speakers on the top. If you are someone who consumes a lot of audio and video, the content sounds fuller in iPad Pro. However, No one says that the sound that comes from the iPad 6 speaker is low-quality.

The 2018 iPad comes with an 8 Megapixel main camera with a focal length of 2.4 capable of recording 1080 HD videos. The selfie(front) camera is 720p lens that supports both HDR and panorama. This suggests a little improvement over the last-year's low-cost iPad.
Apple has rated the 8827 mAh non-removal lithium-ion battery inside the 6th gen for 10 hours continuous run. The Battery Test carried out by laptopmag.com confirmed this claim.

Last but not least, the 6th generation iPad features a fast and powerful A10 Fusion processor under the hood. So, it's unlikely that you'll face any lags when opening apps or multitasking. It gained 3252 scores in the single-core benchmark and 5857 on the multi-core benchmark using Geekbench 4. That falls well in the performance range of the iPhone 7. That beats the year's iPad Pro models and is far superior to the 2017 iPad (2523) and iPad Air 2(1785).

Thanks to a fast processor, the augmented reality features are enhanced over the last year's iPad. This affordable iPad also comes with fun augmented reality apps. The 6th generation of the iPad is an affordable and high-performance 9.7-inch tablet that comes with the fast A10 as its heart. It is also compatible with the stylus such as Apple Pencil and other Styluses putting it at the top of the shopping list for students and amateur artists.
